Afghanistan Afghani - Currency Revaluation

ISO 4217 Amendment 117 details the revaluation of the Afghanistan Afghani effective 7th October 2002, whereby 1,000 Afghanistan Afghanis became 1 Afghanistan Afghani, and the associated ISO code revision (AFA became AFN). The old and new codes ran in parallel between 7th October 2002 and 2nd January 2003.

With effect from 6th January 2003, the exchange rates shown in our products will reflect the revaluation of the Afghani currency. These values are held in F4 Header Record C and on 1 Series SEDOL records.

Within Header Record C are two slots to hold the Current and Previous ISO Codes. To prevent new codes being output in customer services without notice, no changes will be made to the content of these slots until 20th January 2003. From this date, the Previous ISO Code slot will hold AFA and the Current ISO Code slot will hold AFN.

The descriptions of the affected EXSHARE/FTS Currency Formats will be amended in an emergency Focal Point which will be published during the week of 6th - 10th January 2003.
